Description
- Oral antidiabetic medicine
Indications
- Reduces blood sugar levels
- Used in type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults
Pharmacology
- Stimulates insulin release from pancreatic cells
- Decreases hepatic glucose output
Dosage & Administration
- Usual initial dose: 40-80 mg daily
- Max dose: 320 mg daily
- Should be taken before meal
- Daily dose for modified release preparation: 1-4 tablets
- For oral use
- Should be taken with a glass of water at breakfast time
- Do not chew or crush
Interaction
- May interact with other oral antidiabetics, antibiotics, medicines for high blood pressure, fungal infection, ulcers, depression, painkillers, alcohol, and more
- May increase the effects of warfarin
- Can be taken with food and non-alcoholic drinks
- May impair ability to drive or use machines
Contraindications
- Allergic to gliclazide or related medicines
- Insulin-dependent diabetes (type 1)
- Severe kidney or liver disease
- Taking medicines to treat fungal infections
- Breastfeeding
