Indications
- Adjunct to diet and exercise for noninsulin dependent diabetes mellitus
- Combination use with metformin and insulin for glycaemic control

Pharmacology

Administration

Interaction
- Potentiating drug interactions include ACE inhibitors, corticosteroids, MAO-inhibitors, fluconazole
- Attenuating drug interactions include barbiturates, calcium channel blockers, corticosteroids, diuretics
- Special consideration for concomitant treatment with beta-receptor blockers, alcohol intake
Contraindications
- Not suitable for insulin dependent diabetes mellitus
- Not for diabetic ketoacidosis or coma
- Hypersensitivity to Glimepiride, sulfonylureas, sulfonamides
- Severe hepatic dysfunction, impaired renal function, dialysis patients

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Avoid during pregnancy, changeover to insulin necessary

Precautions & Warnings
- Increased risk of hypoglycaemia in initial weeks of treatment
- Necessity for careful monitoring and dosage adjustment in such cases
- Prompt control of hypoglycaemia with immediate carbohydrate intake
Overdose Effects
- Potential for hypoglycaemia production
- Mild symptoms treated with oral glucose and dosage adjustments
- Severe reactions constitute medical emergencies, require hospitalization and intravenous glucose
