Description

Dosage Forms

Indications

  • Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults and children from 10 years of age and adolescents

Pharmacology

  • Biguanide type oral antihyperglycemic drug
  • Lowers both basal and postprandial plasma glucose
  • Decreases hepatic glucose production
  • Improves insulin sensitivity

Dosage Administration

  • Usual starting dose of 500 mg
  • Maximum daily dose of 2550 mg for adults
  • Usual starting dose of 500 mg for children
  • Maximum daily dose of 2000 mg for children
  • Dosage adjustments based on renal function
  • Swallow extended release tablet whole

Interactions

  • Potential interactions with Furosemide and Nifedipine
