Indications
- Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus
- Improvement of glycaemic control in adults
- Monotherapy in inadequately controlled patients
- Combination therapy with metformin or sulphonylurea
Pharmacology
- Inhibitor of DPP-4 enzyme
- Increases active incretin hormones
- Stimulates insulin release in a glucose-dependent manner
Dosage & Administration
- 5 mg once daily
- Concomitant administration with metformin
- Consideration of lower dose with sulphonylurea combination
- No dose adjustment required for renal impairment
Interaction
- Weak competitive and mechanism-based inhibitor of CYP3A4
- Low risk for clinically meaningful interactions with other drugs
