Indications
- Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus
- Improving glycaemic control in adults
- Monotherapy in inadequately controlled patients
- Combination therapy with metformin
- Combination therapy with sulphonylurea and metformin
Pharmacology
- Inhibitor of DPP-4 enzyme
- Increases concentrations of active incretin hormones
- Stimulates release of insulin
- Decreases secretion of glucagon
Dosage & Administration
- 5 mg once daily
- Concomitant administration with metformin
- Consideration of lower dose of sulphonylurea with combination therapy
- No dose adjustment required for patients with renal impairment
- Can be taken with or without a meal
Interaction
- Weak competitive and weak to moderate mechanism-based inhibitor of CYP isozyme CYP3A4
- No clinically relevant effect on the pharmacokinetics of metformin, glyburide, simvastatin, warfarin, digoxin, or oral contraceptives
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients
