Indications
- Adjunct to diet and exercise
- Improves glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus
Pharmacology
- DPP-4 inhibitor
- Slows inactivation of incretin hormones
- Increases and prolongs action of incretin hormones
- Increases insulin release and decreases glucagon levels in circulation
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended dose of 50 mg twice a day
- Can be taken with or without food
Interaction
- Did not meaningfully alter the pharmacokinetics of various drugs
- Slightly increases mean Digoxin concentration
Contraindications
- History of serious hypersensitivity reaction to sitagliptin
Side Effects
- Common adverse reactions include headache, upper respiratory tract infection, and nasopharyngitis
- Hypoglycemia may occur in patients treated with the combination to Sitavia and sulfonylurea and add on to insulin
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy Category B
- Caution should be exercised when administered to a nursing woman
Precautions & Warnings
- Should be promptly discontinued if pancreatitis is suspected
- Dosage adjustment is recommended in patients with renal insufficiency
- Caution should be exercised when used with medications known to cause Hypoglycemia
Use in Special Populations
- Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients under 18 years of age have not been established
- Care should be taken in dose selection in the elderly
Overdose Effects
- No experience with doses above 800 mg in clinical studies
- Modestly dialyzable
- Prolonged hemodialysis may be considered if clinically appropriate

Storage Conditions
- Store below 25°C in a dry place away from light
- Keep the medicines in a safe place, out of the reach of children
