Pharmacology
- Binds to specific receptors in cell membrane
- Closure of ATP dependent K channels
- Stimulation of insulin secretion
Dosage & Administration
- Starting dose of 0.5 mg for certain patients
- Immediate or 30 minutes before each meal
- Maximum 16 mg daily
Interaction
- Possible interactions with other medications
- Inhibitors of cytochrome P450 enzyme system
- Inducers of cytochrome P450 enzyme system
- No significant effect on certain drugs
Contraindications
- Diabetic ketoacidosis
- Type 1 diabetes mellitus
- Known hypersensitivity to the drug
