Nasopharyngitis reported in patients treated with sitagliptin monotherapy
Common adverse reactions due to initiation of metformin therapy include diarrhea, nausea/vomiting, and headache

Lactic acidosis can occur due to metformin accumulation
Regular monitoring of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels recommended in patients with hypothyroidism
Long-term treatment with metformin associated with decrease in vitamin B12 serum levels
Postmarketing reports of acute renal failure and pancreatitis
Monitoring of renal function and hematologic parameters recommended
Patients warned against excessive alcohol intake
Discontinuation and temporary use of insulin may be required during periods of stress and decreased intake of fluids and food
Evaluation for evidence of ketoacidosis or lactic acidosis in patients previously controlled on the tablet who develop laboratory abnormalities or clinical illness
