Indications

adjunct to diet

Pharmacology

inhibiting DPP-4
GLP-1 and GIP hormones
insulin secretion
glucagon secretion
decreases hepatic glucose production

Dosage & Administration

initiated at twice daily
1 tablet in the morning and evening
switching from separate tablets
doses higher than 100mg not recommended
reduced gastrointestinal symptoms

Interaction

no clinically relevant pharmacokinetic interaction
low potential for drug interactions
does not interact with CYP 450 enzymes
no clinically relevant interactions with other oral antidiabetics

Contraindications

known hypersensitivity to Vildagliptin or Metformin Hydrochloride
renal disease or dysfunction
acute myocardial infarction
septicaemia
congestive heart failure
acute or chronic metabolic acidosis

Pregnancy & Lactation

not recommended during pregnancy
no studies in pregnant women
not administered to breast-feeding women

Precautions & Warnings

lactic acidosis
metabolic acidosis suspected
renal function monitoring
liver function tests monitoring
discontinued before elective surgery
resume after 48 hours of surgery

Use in Special Populations

not recommended for use in children below 18 years
monitor renal function in elderly patients
elderly patients with normal renal function
not recommended in patients with renal failure
not recommended in patients with hepatic impairment
