Indications
- Adjunct to diet and exercises for type 2 diabetes mellitus
- Improves glycaemic control
Pharmacology
- Inhibits DPP-4 enzyme
- Increases insulin secretion
- Decreases glucagon secretion
- Lowers basal and postprandial plasma glucose
Dosage & Administration
- Initiated at twice daily
- May be taken with or just after food
Interaction
- No clinically relevant pharmacokinetic interaction observed
- Low potential for drug interactions
- Interacts with furosemide, nifedipine, and glyburide
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Vildagliptin or Metformin Hydrochloride
- Renal disease or dysfunction
- Acute myocardial infarction
- Congestive heart failure
- Metabolic acidosis
- Radiologic studies involving intravascular administration of iodinated contrast materials
