Pharmacology
Inhibits leukocyte migration, suppresses normal immune response
Dosage & Administration
- Adult oral dosages: 1 mg to 10 mg daily
- Children oral dosages: 0.03-0.20 mg/kg body weight
- Intravenous, intramuscular, or local injection administration
- Systemic therapy in adults: 0.05-0.20 mg/kg body weight daily
Interaction
- Enhanced potassium loss with diuretics and/or cardiac glycosides
- Impaired glucose tolerance with antidiabetics
- Increased gastro-intestinal ulceration with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
Contraindications
- Gastric and duodenal ulcers
- Systemic and ophthalmic fungal infections
- Viral infections
- Glaucoma
- Hypersensitivity to corticosteroids

Precautions & Warnings
- Use the lowest possible dose
- Caution in patients with congestive heart failure or renal insufficiency
- Minimize drug-induced secondary adrenocortical insufficiency
- Use caution in patients with active or latent peptic ulcers
- Consideration for patients at risk of osteoporosis
- Potential growth effects in pediatric patients
