Dosage & Administration
- Daily Oral Dosage (Adults): 1-10 mg
- Daily Oral Dosage (Children): 0.03-0.20 mg/kg body weight
- Dexamethasone Suppression Test Dosage: 1 mg or 0.5 mg every 6 hours
- Intravenous Injection Dosage: Massive doses given slowly
- Intramuscular Injection Dosage: Deep intramuscular injection
- Local Therapy Dosage: 2-4 mg in large joints, 0.8-1 mg in small joints
Interaction
- Enhanced potassium loss with diuretics and/or cardiac glycosides
- Impaired glucose tolerance with antidiabetics
- Increased gastro-intestinal ulceration incidence/severity with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
- Altered need for oral anti-coagulants
- Less effectiveness with liver enzyme inducing drugs
Contraindications
- Gastric and duodenal ulcers
- Systemic and ophthalmic fungal infections
- Viral infections (e.g. varicella and herpes genitalis infections)
- Glaucoma
- Hypersensitivity to corticosteroids

- Aseptic necrosis of femoral and humeral heads
