Pharmacology
Synthetic glucocorticoid, decreases inflammation, inhibits migration of leukocytes, suppresses normal immune response
Dosage & Administration
- Tablet:
- Adult dosage: 1-10 mg daily
- Children dosage: 0.03-0.20 mg/kg body weight
- Injection:
- Can be given intravenously, intramuscularly, or as local injection
- Dosage depends on the severity of the condition and the patient's response
Interaction
- Diuretics and/or cardiac glycosides
- Antidiabetics
- Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
- Oral anti-coagulants
- Liver enzyme inducing drugs
- Salicylates
- Antacids
Contraindications
- Gastric and duodenal ulcers
- Systemic and ophthalmic fungal infections
