Dosage

  • Adult dosage: 15 mg/kg/day
  • Recommended use of 100 mg for accurate children's dose measurement
  • Neonates and premature children dosage: 10 mg/kg loading dose followed by 15 mg/kg/day
  • Elderly dosage adjustment based on renal function
  • Increased adult dose for life-threatening infections and pseudomonal infections
  • Urinary tract infections dosage: 7.5mg/kg/day
  • Dosage adjustment for impaired renal function

Administration

  • Preferred intramuscular route for most infections
  • Intravenous route for life-threatening infections
  • Intraperitoneal use as an irrigant after anesthesia recovery

Interaction

  • Potentiation of myorelaxants effects
  • Avoidance of combination with other Aminoglycoside antibiotics
  • Increased risk of ototoxicity with fast-acting diuretics
  • Increased risk of nephrotoxicity with combination with Cephalosporins or Polymixins

Contraindications

  • Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Amikacin or any constituents of the injection
