Description
- Sterile aqueous solution of 7% amino acids IV infusion and 10% glucose with electrolytes
- Contains essential and non-essential amino acids needed for protein synthesis
- Promotes positive nitrogen balance in postoperative and extended intravenous nutrition periods
- Promotes protein synthesis and wound healing
- Reduces endogenous protein catabolism

- Essential amino acids: L-Isoleucine, L-Leucine, L-Lysine Hydrochloride, L-Methionine, L-Phenylalanine, L-Threonine, L-Tryptophan, L-Valine, L-Histidine, L-Tyrosine
- Non-essential amino acids: L-Arginine, L-Aspartic Acid, L-Glutamic Acid, L-Alanine, L-Cystine, Glycine, L-Proline, L-Serine
- Carbohydrate: Anhydrous Glucose
- Electrolytes: Sodium, Potassium, Calcium, Magnesium, Chloride
Indications
- Source of amino acids, glucose, and electrolytes in adult and pediatric patients needing IV nutrition
- Suitable for patients with basal amino acid requirements
Pharmacology
- A crystalline amino acid solution for promoting protein synthesis and wound healing
- Reduces endogenous protein catabolism
- Can be administered as part of total parenteral nutrition (TPN)
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dosage range: 0.10-0.25 g nitrogen/kg/day
- Infusion range: 11-27 ml/kg/day
- Slow infusion rate not exceeding 500 ml in 3 hours
- Infants & children: maximal rate of infusion of 30 ml/kg body weight/day
Interaction
- Expected not to interact with other medicaments at recommended dosage
Contraindications
- Inborn errors of amino acids metabolism
- Severe liver damage
- Severe uremia without available dialysis facilities
- Hyperosmolar nonketotic diabetic coma
- Known hypersensitivity to any of its ingredients
Side Effects
- Rarely: Nausea
- During infusion: Vomiting, flushing, sweating
- Transient increases in liver test
- Hypersensitivity reactions
- Thrombophlebitis when using peripheral veins
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Safe administration during pregnancy in humans reported
- No animal reproduction studies conducted
Precautions & Warnings
- Monitor phenylalanine level in severely ill, premature infants
- Use with caution in patients with diabetes mellitus, severe heart failure, or renal function issues
- Hyperglycemic patients may require exogenous insulin
- Do not use if solution is turbid or contains particles
- Discard any unused portion
