Medrogest 5 mg (Tablet)

Indications

• Treatment of secondary amenorrhea
• Treatment of abnormal uterine bleeding due to hormonal imbalance
• Reduction of endometrial hyperplasia
• Conjugated estrogen therapy in postmenopausal women

Pharmacology

• Transforms proliferative into secretory endometrium
• Androgenic and anabolic effects
• Inhibition of gonadotropin production
• Estrogenic activity

Dosage & Administration

• Dosages of 5 or 10 mg daily for 5 to 10 days
• Optimum secretory transformation of endometrium
• Progestin withdrawal bleeding
• 12 to 14 consecutive days per month

Contraindications

• Undiagnosed abnormal genital bleeding
• History of breast cancer
• Estrogen- or progesterone-dependent neoplasia
• Active DVT, PE, or arterial thromboembolic disease
• Anaphylactic reaction to Medroxyprogesterone Acetate
• Liver impairment or disease
• Pregnancy

• Nausea
• Sensitivity reactions
• Neuro-ocular lesions
• Mental depression

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Increased risks for hypospadias, clitoral enlargement, and labial fusion
• Progestin in breast milk

Precautions & Warnings

• Addition of a progestin for endometrial hyperplasia prevention
• Unexpected abnormal vaginal bleeding
• Monitoring blood pressure
• Hypertriglyceridemia caution
• Hepatic impairment and cholestatic jaundice caution
• Fluid retention caution
• Hypocalcemia caution
• Exacerbation of other conditions

Use in Special Populations

• Not indicated in children
• Insufficient studies in geriatric use

Overdose Effects

• Nausea and vomiting
• Breast tenderness
• Dizziness
• Abdominal pain
• Withdrawal bleeding
