Indications

• Treatment of symptoms resulting from natural or surgical menopause in postmenopausal women
• Prevention of osteoporosis in women at high risk of fractures

Pharmacology

• Tibolone is a synthetic steroid with estrogenic, androgenic, and progestagenic properties
• Rapid metabolization into three compounds with different activities
• Substitutes for the loss of estrogen production in postmenopausal women and alleviates menopausal symptoms
• Prevents bone loss following menopause or ovariectomy
• Effects on vagina, bone, thermoregulatory centers in the brain, mood, and libido

Dosage & Administration

• One Tibolone tablet per day (2.5 mg daily)
• Swallow with water or other drink at the same time each day
• Improvement of symptoms occurs within a few weeks
• Optimal results with at least 3 months of therapy

Contraindications

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Contraindicated during pregnancy
• Immediate withdrawal if pregnancy occurs during medication

Precautions & Warnings

• Patients with renal dysfunction, history of liver disease, epilepsy, migraine, hypercholesterolemia, impaired carbohydrate metabolism, diabetes mellitus, and cholestatic jaundice

Overdose Effects

• Low acute toxicity in animals
• Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, and withdrawal bleeding in females
