Indications

• Testosterone replacement therapy for primary hypogonadal disorders
• Testosterone replacement therapy for secondary hypogonadal disorders
• Treatment after castration
• Treatment for eunuchoidism
• Treatment for hypopituitarism
• Treatment for endocrine impotence
• Treatment for infertility due to spermatogenic disorders
• Treatment for male climacteric symptoms
• Treatment for osteoporosis caused by androgen deficiency
• Masculinization therapy for female-to-male transsexuals

Composition

• Testosterone propionate 30 mg
• Testosterone phenylpropionate 60 mg
• Testosterone isocaproate 60 mg
• Testosterone decanoate 100 mg in 1 ml arachis oil
• 10 percent benzyl alcohol in the oily solution

Pharmacology

• Essential for normal growth and development of male sex organs
• Essential for male secondary sex characteristics
• Maintenance of libido and sense of well-being
• Maintenance of erectile potency
• Maintenance of prostate and seminal vesicle function
• Results in rise of plasma testosterone levels in hypogonadal men
• Results in normalization of gonadotropin levels in hypergonadotropic hypogonadism
• Results in rise of plasma testosterone levels in female-to-male transsexuals

Dosage & Administration

• Adult dose: 1 ml injection every three weeks
• Administration by deep intramuscular injection
• Not adequately determined in children and adolescents
• Contains benzyl alcohol and should not be given to children under 3 years of age

Interaction

• Enzyme inducing agents may affect Testanon levels

Contraindications

• Known hypersensitivity to Testosterone or its components
• Known or suspected prostatic carcinoma
• Known or suspected breast carcinoma in males

Side Effects

• Precocious sexual development
• Increased frequency of erections
• Phallic enlargement
• Premature epiphyseal closure
• Priapism
• Oligospermia
• Decreased ejaculatory volume
• Fluid & sodium retention

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Not adequate data for use during pregnancy
• Risk of virilization of the fetus
• Discontinue treatment when pregnancy occurs
• Not adequate data for use during lactation

Precautions & Warnings

• Use with caution in prepubertal boys
• Monitor skeletal maturation regularly in prepubertal boys
• Keep patients with cardiac failure, renal dysfunction, hypertension, epilepsy, or migraine under close medical supervision
• Use with caution in men with benign prostatic hyperplasia
• Influence on certain laboratory test results

Overdose Effects

• Low acute intramuscular toxicity
• Priapism as a symptom of chronic overdose
