Decabolon 50 mg/ml (IM Injection)

Indications

• Established Osteoporosis
• Disseminated breast cancer in women (palliative therapy)
• Protein deficiency states occurring after major surgery or trauma
• Anemia due to chronic renal failure
• Aplastic anemia
• Anemia due to cytotoxic therapy
• Chronic debilitating disease in elderly
• Postsurgical and post-traumatic catabolism
• During glucocorticosteroid therapy

Pharmacology

• Injectable anabolic preparation
• Duration of action of about three weeks after injection
• Enhanced anabolic and reduced androgenic activity
• Influence on calcium metabolism
• Increase in bone mass in osteoporosis
• Nitrogen-saving action
• Lacks the C 17 alpha-alkyl group associated with liver dysfunction

Dosage

• 50 mg every 3 weeks for Established Osteoporosis and Disseminated breast cancer in women (palliative therapy)
• 50 mg every 2-3 weeks for Protein deficiency states occurring after major surgery or trauma
• 50-200 mg per week for Anemia due to chronic renal failure
• 50-150 mg per week for Aplastic anemia
• 200 mg per week for Anemia due to cytotoxic therapy
• 100 mg for Chronic debilitating disease in elderly
• 25-50 mg every 3 weeks for Postsurgical and post-traumatic catabolism
• 50 mg every 2-3 weeks during glucocorticosteroid therapy

Interaction

• Local reaction at the injection site
• Possible side effects such as virilism, hyperlipidemia, increased libido, hypertension, and more

Contraindications

• Pregnancy
• Male breast carcinoma
• Prostatic carcinoma
• Allergy to peanuts & soya or to the active substance or excipients

Pregnancy & Lactation

Contraindicated during pregnancy due to possible masculinization of fetus, insufficient data for use during breastfeeding

Precautions & Warnings

• Consider discontinuation if signs of virilization develop
• Monitor patients with cardiac failure, renal dysfunction, hypertension, migraine, incomplete statural growth, skeletal metastases, hypercalcemia, and liver dysfunction
• Discontinue use in case of severe health risks from athletic ability enhancement

Overdose Effects

Low acute toxicity in animals, no reports of acute overdose in humans
