Pharmacology
- Clomiphene has antiestrogenic effects and some estrogenic effects. It stimulates ovulation by competing with estrogen for binding sites at the hypothalamic level, leading to increased secretion of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH), resulting in ovarian follicle maturation and ovulation. It is also likely related to the increases in FSH and LH secretion in male infertility.
Dosage and Administration
- For females: 50 mg daily for 5 days, starting any day from the second to fifth day of the menstrual cycle, with adjustments based on individual sensitivity. For males: 25 mg once daily up to 90 days, with a recommended break of 5 days after every 25 days. Different dosage for haemodialysis patients and elderly.
