Indications

Description
- Selective inhibitor of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP)-specific phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5)
- Requires sexual stimulation for effectiveness
Pharmacology
- Mechanism of action involving release of nitric oxide (NO) leading to increased levels of cGMP
- Rapid absorption after oral administration
- Metabolized predominantly by hepatic metabolism
- Rapidly absorbed, especially in the fasted state
- Cleared by hepatic microsomal isoenzymes
- Reduced clearance in elderly individuals
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended starting dose of 50 mg taken 1 hour before sexual activity
- Dose may be increased to a maximum of 100 mg or decreased to 25 mg based on effectiveness and toleration

Interaction
