Description
Viamax is a selective, reversible inhibitor of cGMP-specific phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5)
Mechanism of Action
Inhibition of PDE5 increases levels of cGMP, resulting in smooth muscle relaxation and increased blood flow in the penile tissues
Pharmacokinetics and Metabolism
- Mean absolute bioavailability of 41%
- Eliminated predominantly by hepatic metabolism
- Terminal half-life of about 4 hours
Dosage & Administration
Recommended dose is 50 mg taken approximately 1 hour before sexual activity
Interactions
- Metabolism mediated by CYP3A4 and 2C9
- Inhibitors of these isoenzymes may reduce clearance
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to any component, concomitant use with nitrates
