Indications

Pharmacology

Tadalafil is a selective phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor. It increases cGMP in smooth muscle cells, causing smooth muscle relaxation and increased blood flow into the corpus cavernosum, resulting in penile erection. It also relaxes smooth muscles in the prostate and bladder wall, improving blood flow to the urinary tract and widening the opening of the bladder neck.

Dosage and administration

  • Erectile dysfunction: Starting dose 10 mg, may be increased to 20 mg or decreased to 5 mg, once daily dosing, effective for up to 36 hours
  • Benign prostatic hyperplasia: Recommended dose is 5 mg taken at the same time every day
  • Combined ed and bph: Recommended dose is 5 mg at the same time every day
