Description

Composition

Indications

Pharmacology
- Levonorgestrel suppresses gonadotropins, inhibiting ovulation
- Binds to progesterone and androgen receptors, slowing the release of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH)
- Inhibits the rupture of follicles and viable egg release from the ovaries
Dosage
- 1.5 mg tablet intake within 12 hours to 72 hours after intercourse
- 0.75 mg tablet intake within 72 hours with second tablet after 12 hours
- Recommended to use local contraceptive means until next menstrual period
Administration
- Oral use
- Tablet should be taken with a glass of water
Interaction
- Simultaneous administration of certain anticonvulsant agents, rifampicin, and griseofulvin can reduce or suppress effectiveness
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to levonorgestrel or any of the excipients

Pregnancy and lactation
- Not indicated in case of pre-existing pregnancy
- Not advised during lactation due to levonorgestrel secretion into breast milk

- Mandatory to check for absence of pregnancy by performing a test in case of abnormal bleeding or menstrual delay of more than 5 days
- Not recommended in certain medical conditions
