Indications

Treatment of mild to moderately severe bacterial infections
Infections of ear, nose, and throat regions

Infections due to beta-hemolytic streptococci

Infections of buccal cavity, gums, or jaws
Prophylaxis of scarlet fever

Combination therapy with other antibiotics

Pharmacology

Absorbed from upper part of small intestine
Best absorbed in potassium salt form
Convenient for treating Gram-positive infections
Resistant to inactivation by gastric acid

Dosage

Dosage based on sensitivity of micro-organism and severity of infection
Adult dosage: 250-500 mg every 6 hours
Children dosage: varies based on age
Infants dosage: varies based on age
Best taken on empty stomach
