Indications

  • Treatment of infections caused by gram-positive bacteria
  • Skin and soft tissue infections such as boils, abscess, cellulitis, infected wounds, infected burns, etc.
  • Respiratory tract, nasal, ear, and throat infections such as pneumonia, lung abscess, sinusitis, pharyngitis, etc.
  • Sensitive bacteria and other infections like osteomyelitis, enteritis, endocarditis, urinary tract infections, septicemia

Dosage & Administration

  • Adults: 500mg orally four times a day, or as injection into muscle, joint cavity, or plural cavity
  • Children: half of adult dosage for 2-10 years, one-fourth for below 2 years, with specific injection doses

Contraindications

  • Contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to penicillin

Side Effects

  • Common side effects similar to other penicillins such as fever, diarrhea, indigestion, rash, etc.
  • Discontinue if any form of rash appears on the patient

Precautions & Warnings

  • Caution in patients with allergy history
  • Do not use as subconjunctival injection or ocular drops
  • Preparation of syrup and drops to be kept in cool place and used within 5-7 days
  • Prepared injections should be used within 30 minutes
  • Injectable solution effective up to 24 hours at normal temperature
