Indications
- Treatment of gram-positive bacterial infections
- Treatment of infections caused by penicillinase-producing staphylococci
- Treatment of skin and soft tissue infections
- Treatment of respiratory tract, nasal, ear, and throat infections
- Treatment of sensitive and other bacterial infections like osteomyelitis, enteritis, endocarditis, urinary tract infections, septicemia
Dosage & Administration
- Adult oral dosage: 500mg four times a day
- Adult intramuscular injection dosage: 250-500mg every 4-6 hours
- Children oral dosage: half of adult dosage for 2-10 years, one-quarter of adult dosage for under 2 years
- Children intramuscular injection dosage: 250mg with 1.5ml-2ml of water for 2-10 years, 500mg with 2ml of water for under 2 years
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to penicillin
Side Effects
- Mild and transient side effects similar to other penicillins
- Common side effects include fever, diarrhea, indigestion, rash, urticaria, erythematous reactions
Precautions & Warnings
- Caution required in patients with allergy history
- Oral solutions and drops should be stored in a cool place and refrigerated if possible
- Prepared liquid should be used within 30 minutes for intramuscular and intravenous injection
- Mostly compatible with liquid, except for some non-aqueous liquids
