Indications

  • Treatment of Gram-positive bacterial infections
  • Treatment of penicillinase-producing staphylococcal infections
  • Treatment of respiratory tract, nasal, ear, and throat infections

Dosage & Administration

  • Recommended dosage for adults: 500mg four times daily for oral consumption
  • Injection dosage for adults: 250mg to 500mg administered every 4 to 6 hours
  • Recommended dosage for children: half of the adult dosage for ages 2 to 10 years, one-fourth of the adult dosage for under 2 years
  • Injection dosage for children: 250mg with 1.5ml of water, or 500mg with 2ml water for intramuscular injection, and other specific instructions for different types of infections

Contraindications

  • Contraindicated for patients with hypersensitivity to penicillin

Side Effects

  • Common side effects similar to other penicillins, such as fever, diarrhea, indigestion, rash, urticaria, erythematous reactions

  • Caution for patients with a history of allergy to penicillin
  • Avoid subconjunctival and intraocular injection
