Indications
- Treatment of infections caused by gram-positive bacteria and penicillinase-producing staphylococcal infections in skin and soft tissue, respiratory tract, nose, ear and throat, and other infections like osteomyelitis, enteritis, endocarditis, urinary tract infections, and septicemia
Dosage & Administration
- Adults: 500mg orally four times a day, Intramuscular injection: 250mg every 4-6 hours, Intravenous injection: 500mg every 4-6 hours, Children: Half the adult dose for ages 2-10 years and one-quarter for those under 2 years, Intramuscular injection: 250mg with 1.5ml or 500mg with 2ml water for injection, Intravenous injection: 500mg with 5-10ml water for injection, In plural cavities and joint cavities: 500mg once daily
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to penicillin
Side Effects
- Mild and temporary reactions such as fever, diarrhea, indigestion, rash, urticaria, and erythema which may necessitate discontinuation if rash occurs
Precautions & Warnings
- Caution in patients with a history of allergy to penicillins, subconjunctival or intraocular injection not allowed, Oral syrup and drops should be kept in a cool place and refrigerated if available before use, Prepared injectable solutions should be used within 30 minutes, Injectable solutions remain effective up to 24 hours at normal temperature, Injectable solutions can be mixed with most liquid but not with meat hydrolysates, Syrups can mostly be mixed with liquids but not with animal liquids such as protein hydrolysates
