Description
- Claxacillin is indicated for infections caused by gram-positive bacteria and penicillinase-producing staphylococci.
- It is contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to penicillin.
DosageAndAdministration
- Adults: Oral - 500mg four times a day, Intramuscular - 250mg every 4-6 hours, Intravenous - 500mg every 4-6 hours.
- Children: Oral - half the adult dose for 2-10 years old, a quarter of the adult dose for below 2 years, Intramuscular - 250mg with 1.5ml or 500mg with 2ml water for injection.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to penicillin
SideEffects
- Mild and transient reactions similar to other penicillins, including fever, diarrhea, indigestion, rash, urticaria, or erythematous eruptions. Discontinue if any form of rash appears.
PrecautionsAndWarnings
- Caution in patients with a history of allergies.
- Do not give claxacillin subconjunctival or as eye drops.
- Prepare and store claxacillin syrup and drops in a cool place.
- Claxacillin aqueous solution remains effective for up to 24 hours at normal room temperature.
