Indications

Pharmacology
- Active against Gram-positive organisms
- Little activity against Gram-negative bacilli
- Inhibits the formation of cell wall of bacteria
- Bactericidal antibiotic
- Interferes with peptidoglycan synthesis
Dosage
- Oral administration for adults: 250 mg four times daily
- Oral administration for children: Half or quarter of adult dose based on age
- Parenteral administration for adults: 250 mg-1 g four times daily
- Parenteral administration for children: Half or quarter of adult dose based on age
Administration
- Oral doses should be administered 1 hour before meal
Interaction
- Concurrent use may result in increased level of Ancoc in blood for prolonged period
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients
Side Effects
- Common side effects include gastrointestinal disturbances, rashes, urticaria, purpura, fever, interstitial nephritis, hepatitis, cholestatic jaundice
Pregnancy & Lactation
- US FDA Pregnancy Category B
- Caution should be exercised during lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Use with caution in patients with evidence of hepatic dysfunction
- Caution in the treatment of patients with an allergic diathesis
Use in Special Populations
- Consider dose adjustment in severe renal failure
