Indications
- Treatment of skin and soft tissue infections
- Treatment of respiratory tract infections
- Treatment of osteomyelitis, enteritis, endocarditis, urinary tract infection, meningitis, septicaemia
- Prophylactic agent during major surgical procedures
Pharmacology
- Active against Gram-positive organisms
- Little activity against Gram-negative bacilli
- Bactericidal antibiotic
- Inhibits the formation of bacterial cell walls
- Resistance to hydrolysis by penicillinase
- Gastric acid stability
- Activity against penicillinase-producing staphylococci
Dosage
- Oral administration for adults: 250 mg four times daily
- Oral administration for children (2-10 years): half of adult dose
- Oral administration for children (Under 2 years): quarter of adult dose
- Parenteral administration for adults: 250 mg four times daily
Administration
- Oral doses should be administered 1 hour before a meal
Interaction
- Concurrent use with specific medication can increase Eflucin levels in the blood
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients
