Indications

  • Treats infections due to Gram-positive organisms
  • For skin and soft tissue infections
  • For respiratory tract infections
  • Used for osteomyelitis, enteritis, endocarditis, urinary tract infections, meningitis, septicaemia

Pharmacology

  • Active against Gram-positive organisms
  • Inhibits the formation of cell wall of bacteria
  • Bactericidal antibiotic
  • Resists the action of bacterial penicillinase

Dosage

  • Adult dosage: 250 mg four times daily
  • Children (2-10 years) dosage: 1/2 of adult dose
  • Parenteral administration dosage: 250 mg four times daily
  • Oral doses administered 1 hour before meal

Administration

Oral doses should be administered 1 hour before meal

Interaction

Concurrent use may result in increased level of Faxilin in blood for prolonged period

Contraindications

Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients

Side Effects

  • Common side effects of gastrointestinal tract
  • Rashes, urticaria, purpura, fever, interstitial nephritis, hepatitis, cholestatic jaundice reported

Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy Category B, excreted in human milk, caution in lactating mothers

Precautions & Warnings

  • Caution in patients with evidence of hepatic dysfunction
  • Caution in treatment of patients with allergic diathesis

Use in Special Populations

In severe renal failure, a reduction in dose should be considered
