Indications

  • Treatment of infections due to Gram-positive organisms
  • Treatment of skin and soft tissue infections
  • Treatment of respiratory tract infections
  • Treatment of osteomyelitis, enteritis, endocarditis, urinary tract infection, meningitis, septicaemia
  • Prophylactic use during major surgical procedures

Pharmacology

  • Active against Gram-positive organisms
  • Little activity against Gram-negative bacilli
  • Inhibits the formation of bacteria cell wall
  • Bactericidal antibiotic
  • Particularly useful against penicillinase-producing staphylococci

Dosage

  • Adult oral dosage: 250 mg four times daily
  • Dosage may be doubled in severe infections
  • Parenteral administration for adults or elderly
  • Different dosage for children
  • Administered 1 hour before meal

Administration

  • Oral doses should be administered 1 hour before meal

Interaction

  • Concurrent use with other medications may increase Floxason-DS levels in blood

Contraindications

  • Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients

  • Common side effects such as gastrointestinal disturbances
  • Rashes, urticaria, purpura
  • Fever, interstitial nephritis, hepatitis, cholestatic jaundice

  • US FDA Pregnancy Category B
  • Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed
  • Caution during lactation

Precautions & Warnings

  • Use with caution in patients with hepatic dysfunction
  • Caution in patients with allergic diathesis

  • Caution in severe renal failure patients
