Indications
- Treatment of skin and soft tissue infections like boils, abscess, cellulitis
- Treatment of respiratory tract infections like pneumonia and sinusitis
- Treatment of osteomyelitis, enteritis, and urinary tract infections
- Prophylactic use in major surgical procedures
Pharmacology
- Active against Gram-positive organisms and penicillinase-producing strains
- Bactericidal antibiotic
- Inhibits the formation of bacterial cell wall
- Resistance to hydrolysis by penicillinase
Dosage
- Oral administration for adults: 250 mg four times daily
- Parenteral administration for adults: 250 mg-1g four times daily
- Dosage may be doubled in severe infections
- Different dosage for children based on age
Administration
Oral doses should be administered 1 hour before a meal
Interaction
Concurrent use with certain medications may increase blood levels of Floxason
Contraindications
Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients
Side Effects
- Common gastrointestinal side effects like nausea and diarrhea
- Rashes, urticaria, and fever reported
- Reported cases of hepatitis and cholestatic jaundice
