Indications
- Treatment of skin and soft tissue infections like boils, abscess, cellulitis
- Treatment of respiratory tract infections like pneumonia, sinusitis
- Prophylactic use in major surgical procedures
- Treatment of osteomyelitis, enteritis, endocarditis, urinary tract infection
- Use during cardiothoracic and orthopedic surgery
Pharmacology
- Active against Gram-positive organisms
- Resistance to hydrolysis by penicillinase
- Bactericidal antibiotic
- Inhibition of bacterial cell wall formation
- Inhibition of transpeptidase enzyme
Dosage
- Oral administration for adults: 250 mg four times daily
- Parenteral administration: Intramuscular or Intravenous Injection
- Dosage may be doubled in severe infections
- Adjusted dosage for children
Administration
- Oral doses to be administered 1 hour before meal
Interaction
- Potential increased levels in blood when used concurrently with other drugs
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients
