Mode of Action

Inhibits formation of cell wall of bacteria
Bactericidal against penicillinase-producing staphylococci
Interferes with peptidoglycan synthesis
Resistant to hydrolysis by penicillinase

Dosage

Oral administration for adults: 250 mg four times daily
Oral administration for severe infections: dosage may be doubled
Parenteral administration for adults: 250 mg-1 g four times daily
Parenteral administration for severe infections: doses may be doubled
Children's dosage: based on age

Administration

Oral doses should be administered 1 hour before meal

Interaction

Concurrent use may result in increased level of Flucil in blood

Contraindications

Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients

Side Effects

Gastrointestinal tract side effects: nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, dyspepsia
Other common side effects: rashes, urticaria, fever, interstitial nephritis, hepatitis, cholestatic jaundice

Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy Category B, excreted in human milk, caution in lactating mothers

Precautions & Warnings

Use with caution in patients with hepatic dysfunction
Caution in the treatment of patients with an allergic diathesis

Use in Special Populations

Consider dose reduction or extension in severe renal failure
