Indications

  • Treatment of skin and soft tissue infections
  • Treatment of respiratory tract infections
  • Treatment of osteomyelitis
  • Treatment of enteritis
  • Prophylactic use during major surgical procedures

Pharmacology

  • Active against Gram-positive organisms
  • Inhibits formation of bacterial cell wall
  • Bactericidal antibiotic
  • Useful against penicillinase-producing staphylococci

Dosage

  • Oral administration for adults: 250 mg four times daily
  • Oral administration for children (2-10 years): Half of adult dose
  • Parenteral administration: Intramuscular and intravenous injections at specified doses
  • Doses may be doubled in severe infections

Administration

  • Oral doses to be administered 1 hour before meal

Interaction

  • Concurrent use may result in increased level of Flucillin in blood

Contraindications

  • Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients

Side Effects

  • Common side effects of gastrointestinal tract
  • Rashes, urticaria, purpura
  • Interstitial nephritis, hepatitis, cholestatic jaundice

Precautions & Warnings

  • Use with caution in patients with hepatic dysfunction
  • Caution in patients with allergic diathesis

Use in Special Populations

  • Consider dose reduction in severe renal failure
