Indications

  • Treatment of skin and soft tissue infections
  • Treatment of respiratory tract infections
  • Treatment of osteomyelitis
  • Prophylactic agent for surgical procedures

Pharmacology

  • Active against Gram-positive organisms
  • Inhibits cell wall formation of bacteria
  • Bactericidal antibiotic
  • Resistant to hydrolysis by penicillinase

Dosage

  • Adult oral dose: 250 mg four times daily
  • Children oral dose: 1/2 of adult dose
  • Intramuscular injection: 250 mg four times daily for adults

Administration

  • Oral doses to be administered 1 hour before meal

Interaction

  • May result in increased levels of Flucin in blood with concurrent use of other medications

Contraindications

  • Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients

  • Common gastrointestinal side effects
  • Skin reactions like rashes and urticaria
  • Liver and kidney related adverse effects

  • Caution advised during lactation as drug is excreted in human milk
