Indications
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Respiratory tract infections
- Osteomyelitis
- Enteritis

Pharmacology
- Active against Gram-positive organisms
- Little activity against Gram-negative bacilli
- Inhibits cell wall formation of bacteria
- Isoxazolyl penicillin
- Resistance to hydrolysis by penicillinase
- Bactericidal antibiotic
- Kills bacterial cell wall
- Interferes with peptidoglycan synthesis
Dosage
- Oral administration for adults, children and in severe infections
- Parenteral administration for adults, elderly, children, and in severe infections
Administration
- Oral doses should be administered 1 hour before a meal
Interaction
- Concurrent use can result in increased levels of Flukin in the blood for a prolonged period
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients
Side Effects
- Common side effects such as gastrointestinal disturbances
- Rashes, urticaria, purpura, fever, interstitial nephritis, hepatitis, and cholestatic jaundice have been reported
Pregnancy & Lactation
- US FDA Pregnancy Category B
- No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women
- Caution should be exercised when administered to a lactating mother
Precautions & Warnings
- Use with caution in patients with evidence of hepatic dysfunction
- Caution in the treatment of patients with an allergic diathesis
Use in Special Populations
- Caution in severe renal failure (creatinine clearance <10 ml/min)

- Used in other routes in conjunction with systemic therapy
- Administered by intraarticular injection, intrapleural injection, and inhaled by nebulizer four times daily
