Indications
- Treatment of aphthous ulcers
Pharmacology
- Mechanism of action unknown
- Inhibitor of inflammatory mediators
- Anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory activities
- Systemic absorption and half-life
Dosage & Administration
- Apply paste four times daily
- Dry and clean the ulcer before application
- Wash hands before and after application
- Moisten finger and apply paste
- Use until ulcer heals
- Consult physician if no improvement in 10 days
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Amlexanox or other ingredients
Side Effects
- Transient pain, stinging, or burning at application site
- Contact mucositis, nausea, and diarrhea (infrequent)
Pregnancy & Lactation
- US FDA pregnancy category B
- No adverse fetal effects in animal studies
- Caution in pregnant and lactating women
Precautions & Warnings
- Wash hands after application
- Discontinue use if rash or contact mucositis occurs
Use in Special Populations
