Pharmacology
- Active against Gram-positive organisms
- Inhibits formation of bacterial cell wall
- Bactericidal antibiotic
- Kills bacterial cell wall
- Interferes with peptidoglycan synthesis
- Resistant to hydrolysis by penicillinase
- Gastric acid stability
- Resistance against penicillinase-producing staphylococci
Dosage
- Oral administration for adults: 250mg four times daily
- Doubling of dosage in severe infections
- Up to 8g daily dosage for osteomyelitis and endocarditis
- Parenteral administration for adults: 250mg-1g four times daily
- Intramuscular injection and intravenous injection dosages
- Half of adult dose for children (2-10 years)
- Quarter of adult dose for children under 2 years
Administration
Oral doses to be administered 1 hour before meal
Interaction
Concurrent use may result in increased level of Flukin in blood for prolonged period
Contraindications
Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients

- Use with caution in patients with hepatic dysfunction
- Caution in treatment of patients with allergic diathesis
Use in Special Populations
Reduction in dose or extension of dose interval in severe renal failure (creatinine clearance <10 ml/min)
