Indications
- Treatment of skin and soft tissue infections
- Treatment of respiratory tract infections
- Treatment of osteomyelitis
- Treatment of endocarditis
- Treatment of urinary tract infections
- Prophylactic use during major surgical procedures
Pharmacology
- Active against Gram-positive organisms
- Little activity against Gram-negative bacilli
- Inhibits the formation of bacterial cell wall
- Bactericidal antibiotic
- Kills bacterial cell wall
- Interferes with peptidoglycan synthesis
Dosage
- Oral administration for adults: 250 mg four times daily
- Oral administration for children (2-10 years): Half of adult dose
- Oral administration for children (under 2 years): Quarter of adult dose
- Parenteral administration for adults: 250 mg four times daily
- Intravenous injection: 250 mg-1g four times daily by slow injection over 3 to 4 minutes or by intravenous infusion
Administration
- Oral doses should be administered 1 hour before meal
Interaction
- Concurrent use with certain medications may increase levels of flucloxacillin in the blood
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients
