Indications
- Treatment of skin and soft tissue infections
- Treatment of respiratory tract infections
- Treatment of osteomyelitis
- Treatment of enteritis
- Treatment of endocarditis
- Treatment of urinary tract infection
- Prophylactic use in major surgical procedures
Pharmacology
- Active against Gram-positive organisms
- Inhibits formation of bacterial cell wall
- Bactericidal against penicillinase-producing staphylococci
Dosage
- Oral administration for adults: 250 mg four times daily
- Oral administration for severe infections: dosage may be doubled
- Parenteral administration for adults: 250 mg four times daily
- Intravenous injection over 3 to 4 minutes
- Doses may be doubled in severe infections
Administration
- Oral doses administered 1 hour before a meal
Interaction
- Concurrent use may result in increased level of Fluxi in blood
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients
Side Effects
- Gastrointestinal side effects such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea
- Rashes, urticaria, and purpura
- Fever, interstitial nephritis, and hepatitis
Pregnancy & Lactation
- US FDA Pregnancy Category B
- Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed
- Caution when administered to lactating mothers
Precautions & Warnings
- Caution in hepatic dysfunction
- Caution in allergic diathesis
