Indications

Treatment of infections due to Gram-positive organisms
Skin and soft tissue infections
Respiratory tract infections
Osteomyelitis treatment
Urinary tract infection treatment
Prophylactic agent for major surgical procedures

Pharmacology

Active against Gram-positive organisms including penicillinase producing strains
Bactericidal antibiotic
Inhibits cell wall formation of bacteria
Resistance to hydrolysis by penicillinase

Dosage

Oral administration for adults and children
Parenteral administration for adults, elderly, and children
Increased dosage for severe infections
Dosage adjustment based on age and condition

Administration

Oral doses should be administered 1 hour before meal

Interaction

Concurrent use may result in increased levels of Perpen in blood for prolonged period

Contraindications

Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients

Side Effects

Common side effects of gastrointestinal tract (nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, dyspepsia)
Rashes, urticaria, purpura, fever
Reported cases of interstitial nephritis, hepatitis, and cholestatic jaundice
