Indications
- Skin and soft tissue infections

Pharmacology
- Active against Gram-positive organisms
- Little activity against Gram-negative bacilli
- Inhibits the formation of cell wall of bacteria
- Resistance to hydrolysis by penicillinase
- Gastric acid stability
- Bactericidal antibiotic
- Useful against penicillinase-producing staphylococci
Dosage
- Oral administration for adults: 250 mg four times daily
- Oral administration for children (2-10 years): 1/2 of adult dose
- Oral administration for children (under 2 years): 1/4 of adult dose
- Parenteral administration for adults: 250 mg four times daily
- Slow intravenous injection over 3 to 4 minutes
Administration
- Oral doses should be administered 1 hour before meal
Interaction
- Concurrent use may result in increased level of S-Fluclox in blood
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients
Side Effects
- Gastrointestinal side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
- Rashes, urticaria, purpura
- Fever, interstitial nephritis, hepatitis
- Cholestatic jaundice
Pregnancy & Lactation
- US FDA Pregnancy Category B
- Caution should be exercised when administered to a lactating mother
Precautions & Warnings
- Use with caution in patients with hepatic dysfunction
- Use with caution in patients with an allergic diathesis
Use in Special Populations
- In severe renal failure, consider reduction in dose or extension of dose interval

- Used in other routes in conjunction with systemic therapy
