Description
Sofa is indicated for the treatment of infections due to Gram-positive organisms, including infections caused by penicillinase producing staphylococci. It is used for treating skin and soft tissue infections, respiratory tract infections, osteomyelitis, enteritis, endocarditis, urinary tract infection, meningitis, septicaemia, and as a prophylactic agent during major surgical procedures. Flucloxacillin is active against Gram-positive organisms including penicillinase producing strains. It has little activity against Gram-negative bacilli. Oral and parenteral administration are available. The medicine should be administered 1 hour before a meal. Concurrent use with specific medications may result in increased levels of Sofa in the blood. It is contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients. Common side effects include gastrointestinal disturbances, rashes, urticaria, purpura, fever, interstitial nephritis, hepatitis, and cholestatic jaundice. The US FDA Pregnancy Category of Flucloxacillin is B, caution should be exercised when administered to a lactating mother.
