Indications
- Treatment of skin and soft tissue infections
- Treatment of respiratory tract infections
- Treatment of osteomyelitis
- Treatment of enteritis
- Treatment of endocarditis
- Prophylactic use during major surgical procedures
Pharmacology
- Active against Gram-positive organisms
- Little activity against Gram-negative bacilli
- Inhibits formation of bacterial cell wall
- Bactericidal antibiotic
- Inhibited by Flucloxacillin
- Resists the action of bacterial penicillinase
Dosage
- Oral administration for adults, children (2-10 years), and children under 2 years
- Parenteral administration for adults, elderly, and children
- Dosage may be doubled in severe infections
- Oral doses administered 1 hour before meals

Interaction
- Concurrent use may result in increased level of Softapen in blood for prolonged period
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients

- Caution in patients with evidence of hepatic dysfunction
- Caution in patients with an allergic diathesis
Use in Special Populations
- Reduction in dose or dose interval for severe renal failure (creatinine clearance <10 ml/min)
