Description
- An antibiotic indicated for the treatment of infections caused by Gram-positive organisms, including penicillinase-producing staphylococci.
Indications
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Respiratory tract infections
- Osteomyelitis
- Enteritis
- Endocarditis
- Urinary tract infection
- Meningitis
- Septicaemia
- Prophylactic agent for major surgical procedures
Mode of Action
- Acts by inhibiting the formation of bacteria cell wall
- Bactericidal antibiotic
- Resistant to hydrolysis by penicillinase
Dosage
- Oral administration for adults: 250 mg four times daily
- Parenteral administration for adults: 250 mg four times daily
- Dosage may be doubled in severe infections
Administration
- Oral doses should be administered 1 hour before a meal
Interaction
- Concurrent use may result in increased levels of Staphylox-500 in blood for a prolonged period
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients
