Indications

Pharmacology

  • Active against Gram-positive organisms
  • Little activity against Gram-negative bacilli
  • Inhibits formation of bacterial cell wall
  • Bactericidal antibiotic
  • Useful against penicillinase-producing staphylococci
  • Interferes with peptidoglycan synthesis
  • Resistance to hydrolysis by penicillinase

Dosage

  • Oral administration
  • Adult dosage: 250mg four times daily
  • Severe infection dosage may be doubled
  • Parenteral administration
  • Intramuscular injection
  • Intravenous injection
  • Dosage up to 8gm daily for severe infections
  • Children dosage: 1/2 of adult dose (2-10 years), 1/4 of adult dose (under 2 years)

Administration

  • Oral administration recommended 1 hour before meal

Interaction

  • Increased level of Stapkil in blood with concurrent use of certain medications

Contraindications

  • Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients
